Acute Manic Excitement (AME)
is a disorder that brings about a sense of power,
abnormal increase in energy levels, wakefulness
and a feeling of profound excitement. These sens-
ations may get so intense that the person actually
begins to act on them. When severe it may be followed
by hallucinations and distorted thinking.
Accompanying symptoms ::
Rapid and excessive speech. Decreased
need for sleep. Paranoid drinking and a tendency
to get distracted easily. Most often the patient
is unaware there is something wrong with him.
Treatment ::
Like other psychological disorders,
AME is also thought to be of genetic origin. Without
medication it may take a year or more to resolve,
with possibilities of a relapse. It is important
to consult a psychiatrist. Modern anti-manic drugs
(only to be taken under strict supervision) are
known to cure AME completely.
