A sore throat and swollen lymph
glands make tonsillitis a painful disease to have.
So the sooner you get treated, the easier it is
to bear.
Tonsillitis is primarily a children's
disease. It is contagious and caused by the invasion
of the mucous membrane by micro organisms. When
not infected tonsils help in preventing infection
in the respiratory and digestive tracts. Almost
every child has one or more attacks of tonsillitis.
Attacks are fewer after the age of seven as resistance
develops.
Symptoms ::
Throat pain. Difficulty in swallowing.Chills and
fever as high as 104F. Swollen lymph glands. Headache.
Earache, Cough (sometimes). The infection lasts
about five days.
Treatment ::
Bed rest. Isolation to prevent spreading the infection.
Drink plenty of soothing fluids. Cold desserts
are permissible Gargling with warm, salted water
several times a day helps lessen the pain.Antipyretics
and analgesic are helpful. Antibacterial's must
be taken for the prescribed period.
