Eating out could be a bad idea.
Especially during the monsoons when contamination
levels of water and food, even milk based foods,
by the bacillus Typhi are highest. And an attack
of typhoid could debilitate you for months.
Symptoms ::
High fever that lasts for 3-4 weeks, headaches,
constipation, abdominal pain, tenderness. Delirium,
stupor, coma in sever case.
Treatment ::
Good hygiene and nutrition are very important.
A clear liquid diet is recommended. Patients should
be properly isolated, should strictly follow the
doctor's advice and should convalesce till completely
normal to prevent a relapse. Typhoid could be
fatal to malnourished persons, infants and the
elderly.
Prevention ::
Purify drinking water. Maintain thorough personal
hygiene. Travelers should avoid eating raw leafy
vegetables and food stored at room temperature.
A vaccine should be taken before visiting typhoid-stricken
areas.
