Torrent Pharma started off with products in the therapeutic segment of neuropsychiatry. During all the years following its inception, it has been striving to bring the best therapy available for Neuropsychiatric disorders. In its endeavor to achieve this, a need to give individual focus to the neurology and psychiatry segments was felt. This gave shape to a new division of Torrent Pharma- Neuron, focusing exclusively on Neurology.

Some of the brands, earlier under Mind division but catering to neurology, have now been brought under Neuron. Neuron would mainly cater to Anti-epileptic, Anti-parkinsons, Alzheimer, Neurotonics and Anti-depressant segments.

Lamitor OD, Oleptal DT and Tidomet are few well-known brands offered by Neuron. Of these, Lamitor OD was introduced by Torrent in 2004, which is a first-time introduction in the world.

Lamitor OD is a sustained release lamotrigine formulation, used for the treatment of epilepsy and bipolar disorders. A single daily dose of conventional lamotrigine may lead to very high concentrations of it in the plasma, which may cause serious neurological side effects in the patient. The use of a sustained release Lamotrigine formulation maintains effective plasma concentrations for the dosing interval, producing a lower but effective Cmax and smaller inter-dose fluctuation of plasma concentration, which effectively reduces the need for giving the drug in divided doses. Lamitor OD thus reduces the incidence of the troublesome side effects of conventional Lamotrigine dose, like nausea, vomiting, headache, ataxia and serious skin reactions, reported in patients.
