Pharmacology ::
The Pharmacology department has one of the most
modern and well-equipped facility and is capable
of handling new drug discovery activities. The
department is equipped with sophisticated instruments
for pharmacological and biochemical investigations.
Facilities are available to display, record, and
analyze experimental data from isolated tissue
preparations, and conscious and anaesthetized
animals.
Facilities for recording parameters like, isometric
and isotonic tissue tensions, pressures etc. in
in-vitro studies are available. In addition responses
to field stimulation, transmural stimulation and
nerve stimulation in a variety of isolated tissue
preparations conscious and anaesthetized animals.
Physiological parameters like cardiac output,
stroke volume, blood pressure (invasive / non-invasive),
flow rate, heart rate, ECG, LVP, dp/dt, respiration,
intestinal motility, nerve conduction velocity
etc. all could be recorded from a variety of in
vivo animal models.
The department can also conduct studies involving
various biochemical investigations, ELISA and
other immunological methods.
Facilities for general pharmacological studies
including Irvin scale and determination of spontaneous
and forced motor activity etc. are also available.
This department has recently been equipped with
Telemetry Equipment, which is being used for long
term non-invasive monitoring of various cardiovascular
parameters in rodents.
