Mid Term Meet ::
It is essential not only to have the best systems
and infrastructure, but also a skilled team possessing
excellent cognitive ability as well as the ability
to deliver. Paying heed to the demands of the
organization, Torrent ensures that the senior
executives get ample opportunities to carve out
the strategy for the company. It is in this regard
that it annually organizes the MID TERM MEET,
an informal platform, for combining forces to
come up with pragmatic solutions and strategies.
An outbound program, held at the end of each year,
this approach has ensured that the company is
pro-active looking ahead at the preceding year,
speculating the challenges it may face, doing
the needful to avoid unforeseeable situation and
crises. For the past three years the themes for
the workshop have been chosen deftly, customizing
the contents to yield the desired profitable outputs.
The themes for the past three years have been
'Gearing Up For Tomorrow', 'Change Before You
Have To' and 'Excellence in Execution'.
After deciding the theme, it is customized to
make it relevant for the Company. This is followed
by certain preparations prior to the actual workshop,
including interviews of senior executive, curtain
raiser to the meet to brief the participants and
discussions with the coordinator.
'Change Before You Have to' ::
The mid term meet for the year 2001 was held
at Mount Abu, in the first week of November. The
theme of the workshop was based on the best selling
biography of Jack Welsh, co-authored by Noel Tichy
and Stratford Sherman titled 'Control Your Destiny
or Someone Else Will'. The workshop was designed
by Prof. S.Ramnarayan, a leading academic known
for his specialization in Organizational Behavior
and Development.
Each day, the activities were based on the three
sub themes of Business, Team & organization
and self.
The objective of the workshop :
- Correlate ideas with real life experiences
- Raise critical questions as individuals and
leaders
- How to put Welch's ideas to practice in respective
spheres of influence
The format of the workshop ensures wholehearted
participation, as it consists of innovative pedagogical
tools such as individual presentations, debates,
group discussions, case studies etc.
The life and work of Jack W. Welch, the man
who engineered the turnaround of GE, can be summed
up in the six rules he followed:
- Control your destiny or someone else will
- Face reality as it is, not as it was or you
wish it was
- Be candid with everyone
- Don't manage, lead
- Change before you have to
- If you don't have a competitive advantage,
don't compete
