Mr. Sudhir Mehta, Chairman of Rs. 21000 Crore Torrent Group, is the driving force behind its strong presence in Pharma and Power sectors. Born in 1954, Mr. Sudhir Mehta formally joined the family business in the early 70s.

After completing his education, Mr. Mehta joined his father in managing the affairs of Torrent Pharma and began learning the nuances of business and management under his watchful eyes. He brought in great dynamism and large business acumen into the Group resulting into the initial success of Torrent Pharma, the flagship company of the Torrent Group. He was instrumental in the commissioning of its first manufacturing facility at Ahmedabad and bagging the first export order to Russia. In recognition of its superior performance, Torrent Pharma earned the President’s award for highest pharmaceuticals exports of Rs. 1570 million in 1991-92.

The astute businessman in Mr. Mehta was quick to foresee the emerging opportunities in the power sector and he lead Torrent’s foray into this sector by the acquisition of the ailing Mahendra Cables in late 80’s, now known as Torrent Cables Ltd. This was followed by the acquisition of The Ahmedabad Electricity Company and The Surat Electricity Company in the early 90’s; now part of Torrent Power Ltd. Over the years, he planned strategies and built resources with an aim of making Torrent Power a leader in this sector. As a result of his efforts, a 655 MW dual fuel combined cycle power project was commissioned within stipulated cost and time.

Mr. Mehta took over as the Chairman of the Torrent Group in 1998 after the demise of his father, Mr. UN Mehta. Under the able leadership of Mr. Mehta, Torrent Group has since grown into a leading business group.

Torrent Pharma today has a strong presence in various therapeutic segments with eight world-class operational manufacturing plants and a state-of-the-art research centre. Torrent Pharma’s global operations are spread across 40 countries with wholly owned subsidiaries in most major markets. The acquisition of Elder Pharma's Indian branded business in 2013, Dermaceutical business of Zyg Pharma in 2015, API Plant of Glochem Industries in 2016, women healthcare brands from Novartis and Unichem's Indian branded business and its Sikkim Plant in 2017 strengthened Torrent Pharma's position.

Alongside, Torrent Power today has a strong foothold in generation, distribution and transmission segments. The company has a generation capacity of 3600 MW. It distributes power to 24.5 lacs customers in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Surat in Gujarat as a “distribution licensee” and to 6.68 lacs customers in the cities of Agra and Bhiwandi as a “distribution franchisee”. It has also set up power transmission infrastructure for catering to its distribution business.

Mr. Samir Mehta, 56 is the Chairman of Rs. 21,000 Crore Torrent Group.

Under his leadership, Torrent Pharma took several strategic initiatives, including forays into new therapies and geographies, large investments in product development infrastructure and capabilities, building state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and acquisitions, thus establishing Torrent as one of India’s fast growing and well respected Pharma majors. His emphasis on professional organisational design, precise execution and operational efficiencies has built a strong and globally competitive generic business platform in Torrent Pharma.

Mr. Mehta has also guided the Group’s entry and growth in the Power sector. Torrent Power has systematically improved its performance on all efficiency parameters and ranks amongst the best run power utilities in the country. His emphasis on efficiency and reliability has led the Company to demonstrate exemplary operational capabilities and high customer orientation thus, setting new benchmarks in the sector and attracting many accolades.

In a move to expand its business presence, Mr. Mehta mentored the Group’s entry in the emerging City Gas Distribution sector by participating in bidding rounds for new areas and acquiring existing CGD entities. In a short span, Torrent has established an investment plan of Rs 10,000 crores and started rolling out its network across 16 geographical areas in India.

Much before the current emphasis on CSR, Mr. Mehta always conducted the businesses in a socially responsible way, giving a new dimension to the traditional meaning of CSR. He has emphasized environmental responsibility in industrial operations and creation of local livelihoods in the influence areas of Torrent establishments. His belief that improving community health and school education of the underprivileged class are powerful instruments for social empowerment and upliftment, has driven much of the Group’s investments in CSR activities.

A fine blend of business acumen and cautious entrepreneurial optimism, Mr. Mehta has positively influenced all aspects of the Group culture with his contemporary outlook and innovative ideas. Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti is a Chartered and Cost Accountant, a Certified Internal Auditor, Financial Planner & Fraud Examiner. During a career span of four decades, he has successfully established and led many innovative services. His current passions involves Outsourcing of Knowledge Processes, Engaged Investing, and efficiency & effectiveness enhancement in Social, Commercial and Governmental organisations.

He strongly believes in ‘shared value’ creation, good public and corporate governance and promoting a green environment. He actively promotes these causes, and contributes towards their evolution by participating in the process of framing regulations and standards.

Mr. Haigreve Khaitan is a Corporate and Commercial lawyer and a Senior Partner of Khaitan & Co. Mr. Khaitan heads Khaitan & Co.’s Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) practice. Mr. Khaitan joined Khaitan & Co. in 1988. He spent considerable years of his initial practice in representing clients on litigation matters and thereafter he went on representing many clients on project finance and real estate transactions. Mr. Khaitan presently focuses his practice on M&A, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Corporate Restructuring and advises various Indian and international clients on other strategic transactions. Mr. Khaitan has been highly recommended by world’s leading law chambers / legal accreditation bodies as one of the leading lawyers in India and as the leading lawyer for Project Finance in Asia. Mr. Khaitan has been involved in some of the high profile and complex transactions in India.

His recent significant transactions include:

• Advised iGATE Corporation on acquisition of Patni Computer Systems Ltd., having deal size of approx USD 1.25 billion;
• Advised Vedanta Resources plc in acquisition of controlling stake of Sesa Goa, having a deal size of USD 1.37 billion; and
• Advised Hutchinson Telecommunications lnternational Ltd. in sale of stake in Hutch – Essar to Vodafone plc, having a deal size of USD 11.1 billion.

Mr. Khaitan is on the board of directors of various other Indian companies including Ceat Ltd., Inox Leisure Ltd., JSW Steel Ltd, Tech Mahindra Ltd., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Borosil Renewables Ltd., New Democratic Electoral Trust, Jio Platforms Limited and V S Trustee Private Limited. He is also a trustee of TML benefit trust of Tech Mahindra Ltd. and TVS Motor Foundation.

Ms. Ameera Shah is having a degree in Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and has also completed the prestigious Owner-President Management Program at Harvard Business School.

She is the Promoter and Managing Director of Metropolis Healthcare Limited.

Named amongst ‘Asia’s Most Powerful Women in Business’ by Forbes Asia and ‘Fifty Most Powerful Women in Business’ by Fortune India, Ms. Shah is recognized as a global thought leader in the healthcare industry.

An eminent industry spokesperson, she has been featured as a speaker in various National and International forums, industry events and conclaves organized by IIM, Harvard Business School, TedX, CII, FICCI, Google, Twitter and other global entities. She has also been elected the Secretary of the IAPL (Indian Association of Pathology Laboratories) and has served as the Chairperson of the ‘FICCI Health services Western Subgroup’ that drives policy decisions at the Center. Ms. Shah is also an advisor to many educational institutions (Baylor College of Medicine, IIT Kanpur, IIM Ahmedabad, NMIMS).

Ms. Nayantara Bali, 52, has a Bachelors’ degree of Arts in Economics from Stella Maris College, Chennai, India and has done Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management from Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

She currently serves as the Director with ANV Consulting Pte. Ltd. Singapore (a boutique Management Consultancy that specializes in data analytics), wherein she specializes in P&L business management, strategy, brand management and diversity.

She is a senior business leader with more than three decades of experience. She was associated with Procter & Gamble for over 28 years where she handled various General Management assignments both in India and Overseas. She is known for understanding complex situations and applying sharp strategic thinking, intuition and insight to actions that drive results. She led the diversity program in Asia for Procter & Gamble. She had also served as a director on the Boards of Procter & Gamble Gillette India and Procter & Gamble Health & Hygiene India.

Currently she is also serving on the Board of StarHub Pte Ltd., ANV Consulting Pte. Ltd., Inchcape Plc UK and Marico Limited

Mr. Jinesh Shah, 42 years, is a Science graduate and MBA in International Business from USA. He started his professional career with the Company in 2001 as management trainee and since then he has not only played a key role in development of businesses in Russia and Europe markets but also acquired good insights in areas of manufacturing, supply chain management, product development & regulatory affairs. He had played a very important role in the successful acquisition of business from Elder Pharmaceuticals Ltd. as well as Unichem Laboratories Ltd. He is an excellent team player and has ensured effective coordination among various plants and R&D centre resulting in increased productivity for the organization.

He was elevated as Executive Director (Operations) w.e.f 1-Apr-14.

He has displayed affirmative management approach coupled with a positive leadership role. He is result oriented with strong focus on planning and implementation. An ardent believer in Torrent's values and philosophies, he imbibes them in all his thoughts and actions.

Dr. Maurice Chagnaud, aged 61 years, is a Doctor of Medicine and has done his Masters of Business Administration (Marketing, Strategy, Finance and Administration) from IAE Aix- en-Provence, France. He has done the Strategic Finance Program from IMD, Lausanne, Switzerland.

He has over 26 years of senior executive position in Pharmaceutical business having worked with Pharma majors like Lipha, Merck Kga, Merck Generics, Teva, Lupin and Polpharma as General Manager, Chief Commercial Officer Europe, President and CEO. He had also served as director on the Board of Advanz Pharma, a global pharmaceutical company. He is known for his strong Leadership skills, strategic vision, sharp analytical skills, execution ability, managing complexity, result orientation, and ability to quickly access new situation.

He is the CEO & founder of Mac Healthcare Consulting AG, a boutique consultancy company providing advisory services and support to Financial Sector and Pharma Companies in different sector of activities (generics, OTC, specialities, Biosimilars etc.) wherein he specializes in working on commercial assessment, due-diligence, M&A and strategy development. He recently was involved in several acquisitions (Stada, Zentiva, Rimser, Serb, Theramex, Neurax etc) with different Private Equity entities (Bain, Charterhouse, Blackstone, Carlyle, PAI etc.)

He currently serves as the Director on the Board of Remedica Ltd, Cyprus.

Mr. Manish Choksi, aged 54 years, is a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering and an MBA with specialisation in Entrepreneurial Management and MIS Program from the University of Houston, USA.

He is currently the non-executive Vice-Chairman of Asian Paints Limited. He has been associated with Asian Paints Limited since 1992 as an Executive and has grown in ranks by holding various positions across Sales, Information Technology, Supply Chain, Chemicals, International Business and HR functions of the Company.

He has been a leader in the IT community and the past Chairman of INDUS, a 1100+ company network of SAP users. He served on the advisory boards of IBMs Collaboration business, the Asia Pacific Executive Advisory Board of SAP APAC, member of the Global Chemical Executive Advisory Board of SAP SE and a member of SUGEN, a global executive network of all SAP user groups worldwide.

He is an active angel investor with particular interest in investing in companies that champion cross leverage of physical and e-commerce models with a focus on consumers and data / analytics. He serves on advisory boards of several start-ups and Chiratae Ventures (formerly known as IDG Ventures), one of India’s largest venture capital companies.

In addition to Asian Paints Limited, he currently serves as an Independent Director on the board of Vedant Fashions Limited and MSL Driveline Systems Limited and as a Director on the board of Germinait Solutions Private Limited, Unotech Software Private Limited, Ashimara Housing Private Limited, etc.

Mr. Aman Mehta, aged 30 years, is a Bachelor of Economics from Boston University, Boston and an MBA from Columbia University, New York.

During his tenure with Torrent, he has worked in both Power and Pharma Sectors. At Torrent Power, He was involved at a challenging point in the business journey and was instrumental in bringing about a Consumer Orientation transformation within the Distribution business and also made noteworthy contribution in enhancing efficiency in Operations.

He has been Executive Director at Torrent Pharma and head the India Business along with Corporate HR. His marketing acumen coupled with analytical skills have strengthened Torrent’s India business performance and profitability in a highly competitive market. His key achievement has been the successful integration of the Unichem acquisition, which has created significant value for Company. Further he has lead several organic growth initiatives that has started delivering market share expansion, with a focus on new product launches and market expansion. Aman is a key contributor in evaluation of acquisition opportunities and driving the strategic direction of India business.

A firm believer in Torrent’s values and philosophies, he lays emphasis on creating a culture of innovation, empowerment and possess a commitment to creating a long-term sustainable business. Aman has a pleasant disposition, sound commercial acumen and creative problem- solving skills.
